Exploring
the Grade Book Interface
Grade
Book is similar in appearance and function to a spreadsheet. It
contains five tabs:
Each
tab presents different columns
of data related to section members. The table below summarizes the
information displayed on each tab.
Grades
|
- displays the Last Name, First Name, User ID, and Role
columns, and any grade-related columns
- use this tab to view, enter, and override
grade-related information
|
Members
|
- displays the Last Name, First Name, User ID, and Role
columns, and any non grade-related columns
- use this tab to view and enter any descriptive
information about course members
|
View
All
|
- displays all columns in the Grade Book, grade-related
or not
- this tab displays all columns by default, but like
any other tab you can hide columns
|
Custom
View
|
- like the View All tab, it also displays all columns
- use this tab to create a customized view of Grade
Book columns
|
SCORM
Grades
|
- displays
the Last Name, First Name, User ID, and Role columns, and any columns
that are automatically added for gradable SCORM modules
|
Within each tab, data is presented in a grid of rows and columns:
- Each
row contains the data for one section member. By default, members
are
listed in alphabetical order by last name. You can sort by other
columns.
- Each
column contains a type of data. Some columns, such as Last Name and
First Name, appear by default and cannot be deleted. Other columns
are
created automatically when you create a grade-related content item,
such as a quiz or an assignment. You can also create your own columns.
Default
and Automatically Created Grade Book Columns
The following columns appear in the Grade Book by default and cannot be
deleted:
- Last Name, First Name,
User ID, and Role. These
columns contain section members' information. They appear automatically
and are generated by information taken from enrollment records.
- Midterm and Final.
These columns are used to generate students' midterm and final grades.
They are designed so that values from these columns can be exported to
Student Information Systems (SIS) like our banner system. By default,
these columns have a column type of Alphanumeric.
When you create the following items, a corresponding column is
automatically added to the Grade Book:
- Assessment, Assignment,
and Discussion Topic.
When you create a gradable assessment, assignment, or discussion topic,
a corresponding column is automatically added to the Grade Book. When
the item is graded, the grades are automatically added to the column.
- SCORM.
When a SCORM module is imported, a corresponding column is
automatically added to the Grade Book. SCORM columns are only available
from the SCORM tab.
